Design proposition:

Coogee is a very apparent outdoor space where people knows it through its beach and surf culture. What i want to do is to draw people inside the community centre and stay inside the building and to experience different feeling of a space. They will remember that Coogee is not just about the totally outdoor space but also a different kind of enclosed/open space in a building. In a simple term, the building counterpoint the idea of the beach and surf culture, yet it still exhibit some kind of form which is related to the culture.

Design Progress

New design proposition: Experience of Spaces

small gym&large gym with toilets and changing room, cafe underneath offices at centre, multipurpose rooms, workshop, technical and store rooms.

gym space at the left giving a sense of enclosure, solid and safe feeling.

An open cafe is a busy plaza with people gathering around for normal days and even the excited games at the oval. The office space above it provides shelter when necessary.

The grand stand will be demolished and being replaced by rows of seating in front of the building.

Building on the right is a semi-open building with a round circulation space and transparent roof above it. On the ground floor will be cafe area lit up by the natural skylight.

A community centre is about bringing the community together in one place, to enhance the bonds and interactions between people.

A small building sandwiched between two double-facade historical looking building.

Art Dealer Narrative

A young single man who loves nature and chinese art. He is fascinated by the garden behind the site which is a totally different atmosphere from the busy street at front.

The plans is divided into a grid system of 6 pods. It is much easier to organise the spaces. Some of the spaces still overlapping each other at different levels.

The design of the front facade had taken the horizontal lines from the adjacent building so that it fits into the contexts.

3rd floor stairs lead to:

up- the art dealer's office

down- to the workshop which is open to public

Ground floor: open courtyard at the centre, art gallery and another courtyard at the back.

Public toilet under the ramp and a storage room under the art gallery at the back of the building.

There will be sofa and magazines at the 2nd floor for customers to sit down and relax.

Semi-open office which allows the art dealer to overlook his art gallery.

The design uses a lot of timber and wood to integrate with the garden behind the building and giving it an oriental feel. The multi-level art gallery allows for circulation and stopping at some larger areas and allows for the customers to mingle around.
